Cambridge Original Printmakers will open its doors for the first time on Saturday 27 September 2014 at The Pitt Building in the centre of Cambridge, opposite the fabulous Fitzbillies restaurant.

Printmakers Sue Jones, Anthony Hopkinson and Jo Tunmer are three individuals, who independently realised there was a wealth of printmaking talent in and around Cambridge and no event to showcase it.

One of the reasons why Sue, Anthony and Jo wanted to create this amazing event is to help promote the knowledge, understanding and the technical complexities of printmaking to the wider community.

There are so many different techniques within the Printmaking world. From lino-cutting, etching, lithography to photopolymer gravure as well as many other techniques that you will be able to see for yourself at the launch of the Cambridge Original Printmakers exhibition.

41 invited Printmakers based within 30 miles of the city centre snapped up their places immediately. Several internationally acclaimed Printmakers will be exhibiting including Charlotte Cornish, Ross Loveday, Geri Waddington and Andy English. The three founders were also keen to showcase new emerging Printmakers such as Susie Johnson, Emma James and Nina Sage.

In addition to the 9 day exhibition where all work will be for sale, several exhibitors will be holding demonstrations so you will be able to really see what a ‘hand-pulled original’ really means.

There will also be a series of free talks during the two weekends from prominent UK Printmakers, these include:

Master Printmaker Stanley Jones who has worked with artists such as Hockney, Hepworth and Moore throughout his career; Carry Akroyd who is exhibiting at Cambridge Contemporary Art in Trinity St and is kindly taking time out from her exhibition to talk about the sources of her imagery; Chloë Cheese will be talking about her work and her mother’s influences, Master Printmakers Kip Gresham, James Hill, Geri Waddington and Andy English will also be talking about their various printmaking techniques. If you would like to book for any of these then please go to the website and follow the links on the talks page.

If that wasn’t enough to whet your appetite the three internationally recognized Print Houses that are based around Cambridge and where many of the exhibitors trained – Kip Gresham Editions, St Barnabas Press, and the Curwen Print Study Centre will be showcasing their printmaking classes, editioning and studio facilities.
