Overview: The workshop will be suitable for beginners and more experienced painters. In the morning I will demonstrate how to get colours to run together and how to prevent them getting out of control or making 'cauliflowers'. We will practice simple techniques. In the afternoon I will demonstrate a minimalist painting of a misty scene over water. Please bring with you a couple of small to medium sized sketches of a very simple scene such as a boat floating on water, children playing on the beach or a few trees in the distance beyond a lake.

I will provide some large brushes, paper and some sketching ideas. I will also bring approx. four boards and tape for those who do not have one, and a hair dryer.

Ros Ridley Event PictureWhat to bring:

- Your usual watercolour paints and mixing palette.
- The largest brushes you can manage.
- At least one small brush.
- Langton (Bockingford) 300gm NOT paper or similar.

Geoff Goddard - Reflections

Reflections is a small exhibition of my recent work where I have tried to create paintings that have a slightly mysterious narrative and timeless quality. Although most of the paintings have a portraiture base the aim was not just to capture a likeness but to create images that communicate to the viewer and are also open to interpretation. Using gold and metal leaf gilding in many of the paintings has hopefully given them an elegant but ethereal beauty.

Indie Arts presents ' Landscapes at the Library' with Cheryl Warren

An invitation for an evening with artist Cheryl Warren and to meet members of the Independent Cambridge community. Thursday, March 14 from 7 to 9pm at Espresso Library, East Road, Cambridge CB1 1BG. Invite open to all! Cheryl is an artist and expressionist painter. She's also a member of Independent Cambridge and we're very happy to be collaborating on promotion of this event. You can come along to meet us - Anne and Steve, founders of Independent Cambridge, view Cheryl's stunning exhibition and meet our Indie members too. Also ON THE NIGHT Cheryl is offering a 15% discount on art work purchased from the exhibition. A bit about the artist: With an original training in sculpture, Cheryl now works with oil paint - producing both large and small-scale works. She works from her studio in North Cambridge where she hosts open events throughout the year. In 2009 she graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with an MA in Art Therapy. She has been a practicing professional artist for 21 years. Her show at Espresso Library displays a large selection of her work. "My inspiration has long been environments, both external and internal. There is an interaction between the two that is of a constant interest to me. I spend my time walking, photographing and sketching, absorbing my place in the landscape. No light, weather, texture, wind, feeling, mood or day is ever the same. I then return to the studio. I try to capture the feeling and atmosphere as well as the physical detail. The aim is to distill the occasion into the work without marks that are extraneous or unnecessary.” www.cherylwarren.com We do hope you can join us for this, our first Indie Arts event.
