A member of CDS in the 80’s, Glynis Barnes-Mellish is one of the country’s leading portrait painters.

In April 2007, Glynis won first prize in the BBC series Star Portraits. Winner of the Daler/Rowney Watercolour Award in 1988, she has also been a major contributor to many books on watercolour painting, as well as her own books - Watercolour Workshop and Watercolour Workshop II. She has lectured, run workshops and demonstrated extensively throughout the U.K and Europe. Born in Kent, Glynis studied at the St. Albans School of Art 1971-1972 then onto the West Surrey College of Art & Design 1972-1975 and the after a brief sabbatical went back to the St. Albans School of Art 1981-1983. By constantly exploring the way in which the unique qualities of watercolour can be used to produce light and vitality in her work, Glynis has developed a skill that captures not only the subject’s likeness but also their very soul in a single moment of time.

Chris Christoforou has been a professional artist for 35 years and has built an international reputation for his wildlife paintings. He is in great demand for his presentations on his field trips to exotic locations.

Project Africa – An Artist in Conservation is one of his most popular talks, which is an informative and dazzling presentation accompanied with stunning photography. This presentation shows the beautiful landscape and amazing wildlife of East Africa, within the context of conservation. This is a major factor why Chris and his colleagues went to Africa. They ventured to help save the wildlife from the awful Canine Distemper virus, which claimed the lives of so many wonderful animals. Chris will explain some of this at the time of the presentation, as well as run through the incredible visual material. Project Africa will excite and inspire all who attend this talk.

We will be painting a lively village or town scene on canvas, working from A4 photographs. You can take your own photos and bring them along, but I will be painting from a photo of Granchester, and will bring spare photos of the same image should you prefer to work from one.

I can provide canvasses for small extra charge, or bring your own (mine are very reasonable as I buy in bulk) I will provide paint free of charge or bring your own. Bring paintbrushes if you have some or you can borrow mine or buy from me (again, very reasonable – 50p or £1 each!) and ruler and biro and A4 cellophane sleeve for photo, I will have plenty if you forget.

Please bring overall and packed lunch, palate, jam jar and kitchen roll. I will bring some table-easels but do not have enough for everyone, so please bring, or standing easel.
