Binnie Macellari

oil - watercolour - mixed media
Cambridge

I took up painting after completing an Art History degree inspired by the in-depths observation of artworks in this country and abroad. My paintings are mainly of the natural world, I aim to convey atmosphere and to capture light - which was dazzling in Argentina where I lived for many years - but more subtle and precious in this country. I have found oil is the best medium for me, but do use watercolour and acrylic when working outdoors.  As well as figurative painting, I am exploring a more abstract approach to my subjects. I like to try new methods of expression and am constantly inspired while walking in the Cambridgeshire countryside, as well as in Norfolk, Suffolk, Cornwall, Ireland and Italy.
