Landscape paintings in pastel; drawings of street scenes and buildings in sepia pen and wash
Soft pastel; also pen and wash
Ickleton, Saffron Walden

After a long career in publishing I became an artist in my 'third age', having spent more than ten years studying the classical principles of drawing and painting with James Horton (now President of the RBA).  I have a deep love of the English landscape in all its moods and seasons; working mainly en plein air, in soft pastel, I look for harmony and and beauty in every subject, seeking to capture light, atmosphere and texture in a representational style with which viewers can immediately identify. The same goes for landscapes in Australia, where I once lived for several years.  These principles apply equally to my sepia drawings of street scenes and ancient buildings, a medium I like to use in Southern Europe as well as Cambridge.

This year (2015), for the second year running, I have had works selected by the RBA (Royal Society of British Artists) for their annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries.  I have held six solo exhibitions so far, two of which were sell-outs, and have exhibited in London and at the Geedon Gallery, Fingringhoe as well as widely in South Cambridgeshire. I am also a Friend of the RBA and of the Pastel Society. I am happy to accept commissions, usually of clients' favourite views or of houses in their settings.  Some 300 of my paintings and drawings are now in the hands of collectors in countries ranging from the USA to Australia.
