Derek Wood

Landscape Artist
Acrylic, Watercolour, Mixed Media

Originally I studied Textile design at Ravensbourne College of Art and Design, and then went on to work in a commercial design studio, and later as a freelance textile designer.

After that I decided to focus more on painting and drawing from nature, and experimenting with printmaking and mixed media.

My landscapes are painted with passion, and a deep connection with nature.

My aim is to impart something dramatic and moving, encouraging people to look, and feel more in touch with the natural world. I find inspiration in the transient changes of weather, the play of light through trees, or on water.

In close observation of nature, I experience a blissful and moving state of mind. The activity of painting is all-absorbing, and a form of meditation, every brushstroke an extension of my mind and spirit.
