Emily Fowke

I paint landscapes to celebrate the beauty of the natural world, working in oils on board. I sketch, walk and just hang about in the places I paint and then spend several weeks working on a few paintings of a place at the same time.

I work by building layers of texture and luminosity, using wax, linseed and safflower oils, to bring depth and variation to the painting surface.

I’m interested in the interactions of small differentiations in colour to achieve a harmonious sense of the whole field of colour.

I’m currently working from inspiration drawn from the many beautiful elements of the East Anglian countryside and also, a returning subject matter, from two visits to the Picos Mountains of Spain.

Sketching outdoors and painting and drawing still life, along with more imagination-based work is also a big part of my artwork experience.

I live and work in Cambridge.
