Colourful, detailed paintings of tranquil gardens, old buildings, chickens and geese
Pen and watercolour
Sawston, Cambridge

I am inspired by local gardens and old buildings, working mainly in pen and watercolour. In the summer I go sketching and try to capture the essence of what I see. I also take notes and photos and back in my studio put them together to compose a picture. I use a dip pen to pick out the textures of trees and the contrasting shapes of flowers and leaves, and then add watercolour. I often include a bird or cat that passed through while I was drawing. I also enjoy sketching chickens and geese going about their business. Several of my pictures have been taken abroad as memories of the English countryside.

I trained in Graphic Design at St. Martin’s but nowadays I concentrate on creating original paintings and prints. I have become increasingly interested in printmaking since following the certificate course at the Curwen Print Study Centre in 2017.

I exhibit regularly with the Cambridge Drawing Society, Cambridge Open Studios and in exhibitions across East Anglia. In 2010 two of my pictures were accepted for the Society of Women Artists exhibition at the Mall Galleries. I have also done pen and ink illustrations of towns and cities that appear on souvenir gifts.
