Geoff Southworth
Based in Cambridge I have been a member of the Drawing Society for 30 years. Best described as a Sunday painter I am largely self-taught and have drawn and painted most of my life. I paint in gouache, sometimes adding pencil work to provide definition and texture. Gouache is more controllable and better suited to my subjects than other media. I use a camera whilst travelling to frame subjects to work on when back at home. Buildings, alleyways, doors and windows in Italy, France and Spain are common subjects. I find the combination of texture and light in these countries fascinating. Lately I have also been painting autumn leaves because the combination of shapes, colours and textures is a new interest and challenge.
