I have always enjoyed drawing, particularly sitting outdoors with the beautiful countryside in front of me. Painting started when in London training to be a nurse (a long time ago!) I missed the gentle Suffolk landscape and tried to recreate the woods and fields in oils. Oil paints and three small children didn't mix (the paint didn't come off their clothes too well!) so I changed to watercolours. These have challenged and thrilled me for over twenty years. Lately I've included collage and been working in acrylics and acrylic ink. These forgiving media have given me courage to use bold colour and textures and tackle subjects like boats and townscapes.
We have hens on the farm and I love to sit in the orchard and paint them. Old roses and garden flowers are another passion.
I am always trying to capture light in my paintings - as every artist knows, it is everything.
I enjoy teaching classes at home in Colne, also workshops in nearby villages. I plan to hold one-day workshops here in Colne soon.
